PSG Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
